🍻 Stage 76: How to burn fat when cycling
the Tour de France Femmes wraps up and a beer-bike collaboration
This week’s newsletter includes a round-up of the Tour de France Femmes, a look at legally fixed bike racing and an adventure in Iceland. We also have a famous beer brand teaming up with a cycling company and a podcast from one of the biggest riders in the peloton. Enjoy!
Hello,
Welcome to another newsletter from Girona. I arrived home early yesterday morning after a week of racing in Alsace, France. It’s safe to say that I’m pretty tired, after five days of racing as well as a busy travel day.
The racing was difficult. It was my first proper race after the problems that I had with my back. After a little bit of time out of the peloton, it was certainly a baptism of fire. The racing was cool though, we got the chance to race up the Super Planche des Belles Filles - I can confirm it’s as steep as it looks on TV.
I’ve now got a couple of weeks at home, before heading to Belgium for some races. So a little bit of recovery, before another good training block.
Happy Pedalling,
Joe

An Icelandic adventure
The Westfjords. Ever heard of them? Me neither.
After a little bit of research, the Westfjords are the remote northwestern corner of Iceland. Last summer, a group including endurance cyclist Payson McElveen, set off to scout a bikepacking route around the area with the help of the local tourism office. The route they mapped, was 960 km of paved and gravel roads. It’s now a four-day race/event.
The images are absolutely epic.

Cycling silly season
The ‘Post Tour Crits’ are a European tradition where riders who have competed in the Tour de France are paid big sums of money to come to local show races. They’re not official races, with the outcome often fixed and riders wearing their Tour de France jerseys.

Bike maintenance
This article is far from sexy, but it’s one of those which is high on the convenience list. Bike manufacturers don’t have a history of working together to ensure cross-compatibility between brands. This means it can get a bit complicated.
